A key to receiving from God is trusting in his goodness

God is good. He is good for you.

Deb Peacock

In the presence of God, we go into the receiving place, the place of abundance. Why then is it a struggle to get there? How do we get to this receiving place that is God and what I need?

“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly”. John 10:10

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 4:19

God is good and he is abundant. He has endless resources and he is lavish. He doesn’t need to conserve anything.

But if we don’t trust that he is good, we hold back from running into his presence to receive. Often when we come to God we don’t know what he will give to us, we don’t know what his answer to our prayer might be and so we come having to trust him to give us something that will be good for us, that will help us. If we aren’t confident that every single thing he hands out to us is going to be helpful and beneficial to us, we have to hold back because: what if he responds to us with something that harms us? What if he responds with something we don’t like?

It is humbling to realise that when God says something we don’t like, that is actually exposing our restricted understanding of what is good, what is helpful and what is the best for us. So we have to trust him, trust that he knows more than us. We have to trust that he knows the full picture and so what he is giving us right now is good.

“For He has satisfied the thirsty soul,

And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good”. Psalm 107:9

“The Lord gives grace and glory;

No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly”. Psalm 84:11

Throughout this year God has been reminding me over and over again of his goodness. The Lord is good. There are so many verses that state this in the bible. It is a statement that is absolute. He is not good under certain circumstances or when we do certain things. He is good. He is completely good all the time.  He has no mean ways, nothing vindictive within him.

When we know that God is absolutely good, coming near him means we encounter goodness for us and then we can run unhindered towards him not needing to know what he will give us or what he might say. We just run straight in knowing for sure that encountering God will be good, every time.

God is good and he is good for you. When you draw near to him you will encounter good things that you need. He is the one you can run to with confidence that he will receive you well and he will bestow on you good gifts from heaven.

“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded”. James 4:8
