Letting go so we can go with him

Deb Peacock

God has been pointing out that in the moving forward we can go with him only as we let go. It is key that we are to go WITH him. This means we don’t jump out into something by ourselves. God does send us out to impact the world by taking his love everywhere we go but he has ways about it that mean we aren’t sent as isolated, independent and exposed people. He sends us out with covering, with grace, with empowerment of him. He sent disciples out in pairs, with his direction, with his blessing. He sent the Israelites out from Egypt and continually taught for them to go where he goes, to go WITH him.

In the season changes we can feel torn. Torn between what was traumatic in the past and not wanting to think back to it and yet sensing it is still with us while being called to look ahead and embrace wholeheartedly what the Lord is saying. And God is saying to embrace the future that is coming now, so we need to let go of the past. He says you need to let go so you can go with him.

The Lord calls us out to go on life’s journey and says he has abundant life for us in John 10:10. We have this when we go with him. We want to go WITH him. We don’t want to go on our own. His way is the best way, the joyous way, the victory way. It’s built within us to desire to go forward.

LETTING GO

Sometimes it is hard to comprehend that something would be just for a season so we don’t want to let go. Or, what has happened has been so difficult that we don’t feel ready to let go or it feels like defeat. It takes humility to let go.  In the physical realm there is only the same amount of time, approximately the same amount of human energy available for the new season. We can’t fit all the old and the new in. If our hands are full holding onto the old ways, it is so hard to embrace the new let alone work with the new.

Letting go so we can go ahead doesn’t mean we will forget or lose the old. It stays there as learnings and preparation for us to launch. It just means it’s not the forefront, the focus, the mainstay in our hands anymore. Allowing it to become the learning and preparation that we build on means we honour what the Lord has done in us and with us and we obey his direction to continue on in the journey of life.

RECONCILIATION

When some things are not reconciled, when we haven’t been able to reconcile something or have reconciliation with someone it is very hard to let go.

God is pointing out that he is the Reconciler. He is the one who can bring reconciliation for us. Knowing he is the one who is for us who is our reconciler means we can trust him. He calls us to trust often before we understand. In this trust we can move at his pace, go WITH him where he goes knowing he is for us and that he knows everything that is needed for what is ahead. We can let go of things into his care, the hands of the reconciler.

“Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” Romans 5:11

Do you want to go with the Lord? His way is the best way for life. Doing life with him is the wonderful way, the joyous way. It might be time to let go of what is in your hands so you can take hold of the vision he has for you now. Then you can say, “Lord I will go where you go.”
