Stay in your lane and don’t get ahead of Jesus. Follow him.
Deb Peacock
God is with you and he is helping you to go well, to go empowered, to have peace. Your calling and the vision God has for you has not changed. His mandate over your life has not changed. To those feeling the weight of responsibility bearing down on you and overwhelming you, and those feeling as though there is incoming firing from all sides, he has the way and he is speaking to you.
Without realising it, many have taken on responsibilities that are not for them. Responsibilities for decisions that are not part of their role, responsibilities for other people’s stress and anxiety, responsibility for having the solutions, responsibility for others’ wrong actions and choices. This responsibility might be feeling heavy like weighty pressure with waves of guilt and stress that seems unable to be relieved. Some have decision fatigue and as though your role just got a whole lot harder and bigger than it was.
Over several weeks the Lord has been pointing out to me the importance of staying in our lanes and staying in his timing. With the stress and change all around this is more important than ever.
PULL OUT AND COME UP
One week when he was speaking to me he pointed out that boundaries are being crossed. Many are crossing boundaries and getting involved in things that are not for them. You might have felt as though others are barging in across your personal boundaries uninvited as well. He called me away and as I went in the morning up to the top of a cliff that looked over the city, he was speaking about coming up higher into his perspective. To do this, I needed to withdraw and pull out further, I needed to zoom out from all the things I was involved in. Here he would show me the issues, the boundaries being crossed.
The Lord has very clear vision and understanding of all that is going on. He wants to show you what is and what isn’t your responsibility. Take the time to withdraw and zoom out and then go up with him - go up into his perspective and let him remind you of your appointed roles and responsibilities and point out where you have crossed the line.
CROSSING BOUNDARIES
He is pointing out where others have expected you to come across the line as well. There may have been invitations and support by others for you to cross the line, and go beyond your role in certain situations, to hold responsibility for them. For some, your yes has meant overstepping the mark.
GET BACK IN YOUR LANE
Just as the Israelites were saved by God, rescued by him and then had to stay under his cloud and fire where his protection and provision was, we need to stay under God’s protection and provision in our individual lives now. If the Israelites had looked up and seen they were not under the cloud or fire, they would know they were out of step with the Lord who rescued and saved them. He had proved to them he knew what he was doing and had the power to miraculously save them before, so staying in underneath his provision made sense. Staying in their lane would mean they would be led to where they were going.
If you are feeling the heaviness attached to unhealthy stress over you right now, it is time to pull out and up into his perspective and get back in your lane. While your call and assignment might be difficult, there will be peace that you are in the right place when you are in your lane as he appointed you.
GO IN STEP WITH THE LORD, HIS TIMING
God speaks over us the WHAT and also the WHEN. He is showing that not only is staying in your lane important but so is staying in step with him as you run. Running ahead at this time, is like running ahead in orienteering and leaving your partner who has the map behind you. You will become lost. If you are feeling stress and anxiety around where you are going as though you feel lost and yet you know you are in the right space, you are running ahead.
Jesus is wanting to be your friend, your strength, your guide and so he wants to run this with you, beside you. There is enough worry for one day so don’t take on more than you have to at this time by running ahead of Jesus. Walk and run beside him each day, dealing with what he says, stepping out into only what he leads.
So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34
KEEP YOUR WORDS IN YOUR LANE AND IN HIS TIME
God has been pointing it out that it is most frequently through words, what people are saying, that boundaries are being crossed and people are running ahead. There is a strong temptation to say too much in order to be understood and cared for. God’s love can come through people without them knowing it all or even fully understanding. It is important to watch your words, use them to speak truth from a heart of love.
For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29
The Lord is for you, his plans and purposes have not changed. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He has the way for you and the way holds peace and purpose not despair and hopelessness.
