Prophetic Words
Connecting God’s heart with yours
At the heart of prophecy is a beautiful and sacred purpose: to connect God's heart with the heart of the person receiving His words.
As we listen, receive and share, our desire should always be to faithfully reflect His love, truth and character.
May you find renewed hope, strength and encouragement, and be drawn into a deeper relationship with Him.
Exploring the Prophetic: Guiding Principals
Prophecy is a journey of learning to hear God's voice, understand His heart and respond with wisdom. If you’d like to begin hearing from God yourself, these guiding principles encourage us to approach prophetic words with humility, discernment and a desire to grow closer to Him.
-
Hearing God's voice takes time, patience and practice. Make space to be still, spend time in Scripture and become familiar with the ways He speaks to you. Write down what you hear, reflect on it and thank Him for what He reveals.
-
Not every word we hear or receive is necessarily from God. Take time to pray, seek wisdom and consider whether it aligns with Scripture and reflects His character. Does it bring encouragement, strength or comfort? Don't be afraid to seek confirmation from someone you trust.
-
Receiving a word is only the beginning. There is revelation, understanding and application, and each requires discernment. Ask God what He is saying and what it means, rather than rushing to interpret it through your own experiences or expectations.
-
Even when a word is meant to be shared, it may not be for right now. Ask God whether to speak, wait or continue praying. There is wisdom in recognising that the right word, shared at the wrong time, may not have its intended impact.
-
When you've prayerfully discerned a word, ask God what He wants you to do with it. Sometimes the response is to pray, declare His promises, take action or simply trust Him. We don't need to force a word to happen, but we can faithfully respond to His leading.
-
Prophecy should strengthen, encourage and comfort, always reflecting the love and character of Jesus. The goal is never to impress, control or draw attention to ourselves, but to help others encounter God and grow in their relationship with Him.
-
“Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good.”
1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
Testing a prophetic word involves prayerfully reflecting on its message and seeking God's guidance. Begin by thanking God, writing down the word and reading it aloud. Consider whether it aligns with Scripture, God's character and His principles, and whether it brings encouragement, comfort and strength (1 Corinthians 14:3).
If the word doesn't resonate or feels unclear, take time to pray and seek further revelation, recognising that it may relate to the future. For words involving significant direction or decisions, seek wisdom and confirmation from trusted members of your faith community.
