Don’t take the bait to assume, seek and trust
Deb Peacock
Sometimes when we don’t know what is going on, we make assumptions to fill in the gaps. I once read that assumptions are laziness because we don’t bother to take actions to actually find out the truth. And sometimes we feel blocked from being able to find out what is really going on. We feel like we can’t get the information. The assumptions then come beckoning us, tempting us to be taken on. Often the assumption leads to a break down of some sort, and disappointment.
So when God seems silent, the temptation of assumptions can hit hard. But the quiet times with God are to lead to TRUST. We have access to so much about God, what he is like toward us, what he has promised us and we know he is true to his word. So if he seems quiet, we can trust him. We can know he is still there, he is good, he is loving, he knows the future and he has a future for us. We know he has not disapproved us or disappointed us. He is steadfast and unfailing in his love for us.
We’ve all had times where we admit to another we assumed something. We’ve realised we got it wrong and it caused distance or disconnection with them. We do this with God too. What assumptions are you holding that are taking you down into disappointment and pain? Maybe it’s time to expose them and go back to his word. Go back to his promises. Choose to trust and seek him.
Trust takes us into the deeper places with the Lord where his peace resides and we feel anchored, steadfast with him.
